There are two kinds of downcomers in power plant boiler: decentralized downcomer and centralized large diameter downcomer. The so-called decentralized downcomers are all downcomers leading to the lower header of the water wall. They are directly led out from the lower part of the drum, and the downcomer adopts the ø 108, ø 133, ø 159; The so-called centralized large diameter downcomer refers to the pipe with larger diameter and less quantity led out from the lower part of the steam drum, which is vertically led to the rear of the boiler, and then the decentralized small pipe is led out from it to the lower header. Multi purpose centralized downcomer ø 325, ø 377, ø 426 or larger diameter seamless steel pipe, generally 4-12.

The decentralized downcomer is directly led out from the drum, and there are many holes on the drum, which weakens the strength of the cylinder; After a large number of downcomers are led out from the steam drum, they should be led to the front, back, left and right lower headers of water wall respectively, so that the length of downcomers and elbows are increased. As a result, the layout is difficult, the metal consumption is increased, the manufacturing and installation workload is increased, and the flow resistance of working medium is increased.

After adopting the centralized large diameter downcomer, most of the above shortcomings can be overcome, especially for the convenience of layout, installation and reduction of metal consumption, so it is widely used in modern power station boilers
